See your public and local IP as soon as the page opens, with IPv4, IPv6, and a city-level map. No account.
Your public address and LAN address are detected as soon as this page loads. Bookmark itarmyknife.com/ip if you want a short URL you can type from memory.
The LAN address is discovered locally through a WebRTC STUN negotiation, the same mechanism a video call uses to work out how to reach you.
The public address and its rough location come from a lookup against our own endpoint, with a direct provider fallback if that is unavailable. Geolocation from an IP is approximate — usually the right city, sometimes only the right country, and often wrong on a mobile network or VPN.
What is my public IP address? It is the address the rest of the internet uses to reach you. This page reads it from a STUN lookup and from the address our servers already see, then shows it as soon as the page opens.
What is the difference between a local IP and a public IP? A local (LAN) address only works on your own network, typically 192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x. Your public address is what websites and other devices on the internet see.
Why is the map in the wrong city? IP geolocation is an estimate from the network, not GPS. VPNs, mobile carriers, and CGNAT often show the provider's city rather than yours. Use device location if you need a pin on this device.
