Hash generator (SHA-256, SHA-1, MD5)

Compute SHA-256, SHA-1 or MD5 digests of text or a file, for checksums and integrity checks.

About hash generator (sha-256, sha-1, md5)

SHA-256 and SHA-1 use the platform's Web Crypto implementation. MD5 is included because checksums in the wild still use it, and is implemented locally since Web Crypto deliberately omits it.

Drop a file to hash its bytes without uploading it, which is the point of a checksum: you verify a download on your own machine.

Frequently asked

Which algorithm should I use? SHA-256 for anything security-relevant. MD5 and SHA-1 are both broken against deliberate collisions and should only be used to detect accidental corruption.

Can I hash a password with this? You can, but you should not store passwords this way. Use a slow, salted function such as Argon2id or bcrypt.
